T’CHERs (The Caribbean Center of Home Education Resources) is happy to invite you to its Third (3rd) Home Education Fair.  Over the past year, we have experienced an unprecedented coming together of the homeschooling community because of the T’CHERs online message board.  It has been exciting to know that bonds are being formed and strengthened between homeschooling individuals and support groups across the island, as we open our hearts on the message board on a variety of topics, and as we come together at the numerous activities and outings that are announced. Online: Let's have a homeschool convention...

Spunky writes at her weblog: Let's have a homeschool convention...

...online!

There are so many great writers in the blogosphere who will never get to speak at a homeschool convention and let everyone know what they think. So I thought we'd have an online convention. You get to be the "featured speakers". And you don't have to worry about spending too much money and carrying around your stuff all day!

I thought it might be a nice time to have a convention to focus on the specifics of homeschooling written by homeschoolers. Summer's just around the corner and many of us have an eye on what to do next year and others are still trying to get finished up this year and need an extra boost of encouragement.

The deadline for sumissions will be Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 12:00 Noon. (EST). The first submission will get to be the "keynote writer".

Spunky Jr. and I will put them all together and post here on Thursday, April 21, 2005. That gives us a little time to get the word out and put it all together.

Missouri: Live and Learn Conference

2005 Live and Learn Unschool Conference, St. Louis, MO — October 6-9, 2005

"Ages & Stages"

The Live and Learn Unschooling Conference: Encouraging families to trust themselves to make good decisions and empowering them to find the support and information they need. This conference is a must attend. Meet other families on the same journey, listen to inspiring speakers and panelists and discover the art of unschooling in beautiful Fairview Heights, Illinois - just across the river from St. Louis. You'll find all the information you need through the conference link above.

Make friends! Picture a long weekend where you and your children won't be asked "So, what curriculum do you use?" Here's a chance to make friendships that will support you and your children throughout the year. The energy at The Live and Learn Unschooling Conference is different from anything you've ever experienced! This is a non-age-discriminatory conference: anyone can participate in any Funshop or Presentation. We do ask, though, that if a child gets too disruptive (especially babies and toddlers), he will be removed so that others may gain the full benefit of the program.

Be inspired and challenged! Our loose theme this year is "Ages and Stages" and how an unschooling lifestyle changes with our growing children. For information about speakers and events visit the conference web site.

Massachusetts: The Learning In Our Own Way Conference

A conference for those who want to work with, not on, children.

Keynotes & Workshops by Thomas Armstrong, John Taylor Gatto, Matt Hern and many others

August 12-14, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Woburn Massachusetts

Dear homeschooler, unschooler, teacher and parent,

There are many ways to learn: many schedules, many paths, and many mentors one can use to become a well-adjusted citizen. I should know - for more than 24 years I've helped people homeschool and unschool their children, including my own, using all sorts of resources. But today most people seem to have lost their patience with children: the only reason to use multiple approaches to learning, if they are used at all, is to trick or seduce children into doing what will be covered by mandatory tests and standardized curricula.

With this conference I want to create a "good harbor" where people who feel their approaches to nurturing children are maligned or marginalized by conventional education can find solidarity with others and new ways to help children learn. Homeschoolers will find new ideas and opportunities for their children; unschoolers will find support for not using conventional education; teachers will learn new ways of addressing learning difficulties and parents will find an abundance of options for nurturing their children's natural learning whether they are in school or out.

By sharing stories from a variety of thinkers and activists we can gain strength and insight towards making society, not just school, a better place for children to learn and grow.

I look forward to meeting you and your family at this event.

Your host,
Pat Farenga, co-author TEACH YOUR OWN: The John Holt Book of Homeschooling
